Dr. AsirJawahar Thomas Johnsingh alias A.J.T. Johnsingh

Dr. A.J.T. Johnsingh Environmental Scientist from Tamil Nadu is a living encyclopaedia of Indian Wildlife. After obtaining a Masters degree in Zoology from Madras Christian College, Tamil Nadu, he taught Zoology in an Undergraduate College in Tamil Nadu from 1968 to 1976. This was followed by a 3-year study on Asiatic Wild Dogs or Dholes in Bandipur Tiger Reserve, Karnataka, for his Ph. D. and an 18-month field research project on Raccoons and Opossums at Front Royal under the Smithsonian Institution Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program. On returning to India, from 1982 to 1985, he worked with the Bombay Natural History Society on their Asian Elephant project. Between March 1985 and October 2005, he worked with Wildlife Institute of India as Head, Wildlife Biology faculty and then later as Dean, Faculty of Wildlife Sciences.

Ashish Chandola

One of India’s leading Environmental Filmmakers, Ashish worked as an Assistant to the late G. Dieter Plage (in Yala, Wilpattu and Gal Oya National Parks, Sri Lanka) on his productions for Survival Anglia Ltd. UK. As an independent cameraman, Ashish has shot wildlife films exclusively for Survival Anglia in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. From time to time, Ashish has worked for other producers/production companies and has also shot and produced programs for various Departments of the Ministry of Forests & Environment, Govt. of India.

Samad K. Kottur

Samad Kottur is a leading Conservationist from Karnataka. He has done his M.A. in English & Population Studies and M.Sc. in Environmental Science. He has worked as the Honorary Wildlife Warden of Bellary District of Karnataka in 1997-2000 and 2002-2005. He has written books like Daroji – An ecological destination and Birds of Hampi. He initiated a campaign against ritual hunting from 2000 AD in Hampi vicinity. Thus, thousands of animals were saved from this malpractice. He also initiated the hobby of bird watching in Bellary District, identified migratory birds around the backwaters of Tungabhadra dam and also nesting colonies of rare birds. He has rescued more than 10 bear cubs from poachers.

Dr. Satish Pande

A dedicated teacher, Dr. Pande is a bird lover and a Doctor from Pune. Though a doctor by profession, he has also conducted many studies on birds that have been published in several reputed journals in the field of Ornithology. Dr. Pande is the Founder President of the ELA Foundation, an NGO devoted to nature conservation and education. He has also authored numerous books on birds, including Birds of Western Ghats, Konkan and Malabar and the latest one being Birds of Lonavla – Khandala. Under the banner of ELA Foundation, he conducts the unique Certificate Course in Basic Ornithology. The course is running since 2003 and more than 600 participants have completed the course successfully.

Atul Deulgaonkar

Atul Deulgaonkar (India) is a Freelance Journalist and an Author of 5 books. He writes consistently on environment, agriculture and development issues in leading Marathi and English newspapers. He also comments on environment and agricultural issues on leading regional TV channels. Socially active at National and International levels, Atul gives lectures to students, journalists, NGOs and state government officials. He was nominated as a member of the Central Employment Guarantee (NREGA), Council of Government of India and the Disaster Management Authority of Maharashtra State Government. Atul has received many National and State level awards including Award for Environment Journalism by Prem Bhatia Memorial Trust, New Delhi and the Statesman Rural Reporting Award from the Statesman newspaper, Kolkata.

Dr. Sane, a Senior Botanist is living her life on the 5R principles. She is M.Sc, Ph.D. in Botany & M.A, M.Phil in Indology and is an institution in herself for Botany. Her belief has always been – You can’t study Botany in a classroom, but by going into the lap of nature. She shares her home with numerous birds, animals and plants. In fact, she has defied all rules of contemporary modern living – by residing in the heart of Pune, without electricity or telephone. She even fetches her water from a well. Her life has been an inspiration for simple and environment friendly lifestyle. She has acquired her knowledge from natural environment and has also been a role model for her students.
