Anant Hegde Ashisara

Ashisara is involved in protection of environment, especially, Western Ghats, a World Heritage site and he is Chairman, Western Ghat Task Force. He is also convener of Vriksh Laksha Andolan, a group of people from Malenadu dedicated to protect environment. He is involved in people’s movement against mining activities in and around Ambaragudda hill range of Western Ghats located in Shimoga District, Karnataka. He has put efforts to get arboreal heritage tag to 10 old trees of Karnataka. He expressed concern over safety of nuclear energy in the wake of damage experienced by nuclear power projects in Japan tsunami (2010).

Jayanthnath B R

Jayanthnath is from Bikkanahalli village, Koppal district of Karnataka. He is a civil engineer. In 1998 he quit his lucrative engineering job in Malaysia and came to India and served in Gandhi Seva Ashram, Wardha and Ramkrishna Mission in Brindavan. Now he is doing organic farming and harvesting the crop enough to support his living in the village. He has set a model that one can live a simple life in the era of consumerism.

Talawar Gooleppa

Gooleppa is from Bhatralli in Chitradurga district of Karnataka. He was earning his living by working as a wage laborer. In 1994 there was a plantation by forest department in 125 acres. He started protecting the plantation. Wild bores and bears attacked him while patrolling the jungle. He saved the young trees by watering them from jungle springs in summer. In 20 years he has converted a wasteland into a lush green forest.
